Our highly trained personnel offer proven
expertise in providing professional services
within our 3 core capabilities sectors. These include:
MSES
safety and health inspections include 132 evaluation factors,
based upon the requirements of regulatory agencies that govern
the operation of multidisciplinary laboratories. A detailed
safety and health inspection report is provided for each science
laboratory inspected, providing recommendations for those
areas found to be out of compliance. Furthermore, the report
summarizes the steps that the Risk Management office should
follow in order to minimize long-term financial liability.

MSES
uses a proprietary database application that fully leverages
web-enabled technology. This Chemical Classification System
(CCS) fully supports both the initial inventory and on-going
maintenance of chemical reagents inventories as required by
regulatory agencies. With an extensive database of more than
13,500 chemical reagents, including prohibited chemicals,
restricted chemical reagents, and chemicals with a specific
shelf life, CCS provides accurate, reliable, and regulatory
compliant reports.

Chemicals
identified as having an expired shelf life, having reached
a retrograde condition, listed as prohibited, or listed as
restricted are identified for removal. The chemical removal
list is generated from the chemical survey conducted in the
science laboratory's storeroom.
MSES chemists classify, segregate, containerize, label, and
prepare waste profiles for the selected disposal facilities,
and complete the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest and the
Land Ban Certification Forms so that packed drums can be transported
to a hazardous waste incinerator. The chemicals retained are
listed in the Reconciled Chemical Inventory report produced
by CCS and are then organized into organic and inorganic families
based on Flinn's Compatible Chemical Family Codes or adhering
to the national Fire Protection Association recommendations
for the proper storage of hazardous materials.

MSES
provides comprehensive safety, health, and environmental regulatory
compliance through the development and implementation of the
Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) for multidisciplinary science
laboratories. Regulations require that when hazardous chemicals
are used in a laboratory, the employer must develop and carry
out the provisions of a written CHP. The CHP must include
the necessary work practices, procedures and policies to ensure
that employees are protected from all potentially hazardous
chemicals used in their work area.

Comprehensive
training workshops are conducted by Industrial Hygienists
and Loss Prevention Specialists with a strong chemistry background
and experience working for Public School Districts. The training
meets the requirements of the Chemical Hygiene Plan and provides
the district staff the opportunity to disseminate and implement
its laboratory safety policies.

The
National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health (NIOSH)
found
that up to 52 percent of IAQ problems results from insufficient
or ineffective ventilation.
MSES Industrial Hygienists understand that IAQ problems are
difficult to diagnose and solve because of the many types
of contaminants or building stressors that can cause problems.
In fact, the cumulative effect of many stressors (chemical,
biological and physical) is often the most difficult to identify.
MSES IAQ diagnostics are conducted in accordance with ASHRAE
62-1989, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Quality.
Water damage to building materials can significantly increase
the growth of toxic molds such as Stachybotrys, Aspergillus,
and Cladosporium. Mechanical ventilation equipment can also
contribute to indoor air contamination and be a source of
dust, mold, bacteria and viruses. Improperly located air intake
ducts can bring outside pollutants into the indoor environment,
and building materials are a source of many different volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde that add contaminants
to the indoor air.

MSES
has provided asbestos management services for thousands of
school district, realtors, home owners, and insurance and
has assisted clients in the assessment and management of asbestos
in buildings during normal operation and in buildings undergoing
renovation, modernization, or demolition. Our asbestos management
services include building assessments, Asbestos Abatement
Monitoring, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Programs.
